HOW TO MAKE GINGER BEER AT HOME

How to make ginger beer at home

     hey folks,

well as you may have read in the title that we are going to talk about that hoe to make ginger beer at home just in 48 hours and using only two to three ingredients. well to make it  we are going to need some ingredients beside the side ingredients you will need an important thing called ginger bug. don't worry it is very simple to make and it will only need you a couple of items so, let's get started.

ingredients for ginger bug

  1. 50 grams of ginger. (medium chopped)
  2. 2 tablespoons of sugar. (brown sugar is optional)
  3. 400ml of water.
  4. cheesecloth and rubber band.
  5. and a medium sized container. (you can use any container you want if you want if it can hold the amount of ginger bug that we are going to make)
procedure

  • Cut all the gingers in small cubes but do not peel the skin cause you want all the natural yeast that develops on the skin.
  • Add 2 tablespoons of sugar well I am using brown sugar to give it a really nice texture and right amount of viscosity
  • Well put it all together in the glass container. You needed to add few pieces of ginger and 2 tablespoons of brown sugar everyday for 4 days.
  • Now comes the toughest part putting on the cheesecloth, what you need to do is to put on the cheesecloth on the opening of the glass container and tighten the edges of the cloth with the help of the rubber band. This bug is enough for 5litre of ginger beer.
  • This is the sample below  of how does it looks like, it's get bubbly. bubbles shows that the natural yeast is collected and now we are good to go. There may be a white layer  on top of it, There's nothing to worry about. It's called calm yeast it is natural it is not a mold

Don't be scared unless it look like this.

Now we will be focused on ginger beer. for the preparation we are going to need some simple ingredients.

Ingredients for ginger beer.

  1. 200 grams of finely chopped ginger. (you can use the food processor for it as we want the maximum juice out of it)
  2. 250 grams of brown sugar.
  3. 2 liters of water.
  4. And also need to add 2 tablespoon of lemon juice.

Procedure

  • Put everything in the vessel. (stainless steel pot is preferred)
  • After putting everything together give it a good stir
  • Now we will boil it for about 10 minutes which will extract the best flavor from the ginger.
  • After boiling it we have to wait until the beer reaches the room temperature the heat will kill all the yeast and it won't ferment further.
  • You can use a fine sieve for filtering the beer (i am filtering the beer twice once for the large pieces and once with the multilayered cheesecloth for finer particles.)
  • You can use a glass flip bottle or a plastic bottle but i am using plastic bottle. use fresh plastic bottle please do not use old plastic bottle as it may have the chances to contaminate the beer
  • after the boiling everything that touches the beer should be sanitize with food grade sanitizer.(you can use star san or sodium metabisulfite i have sanitized everything with the solution of sodium metabisulfite mixed with water.)
  • Now we will strain the ginger bug in the container and pour it in the bottle. you don't need to necessarily release the pressure form the plastic bottle but if you are using  glass flip top bottle, firstly make sure that the bottle can tolerate the pressure. A lot of restaurant have this kind of bottle for decorative purposes not for holding carbonation.
  • And secondly after 24 hours pop open the bottle and seal it back again this will release any excess pressure if there. if you forget to release the pressure you may end up with warm bottle which is not a good sign.
  • now seal the cap and voila! our ginger beer will be ready in 48 hours.
  • keep the beer for 48 hours results in the best taste neither too sweet nor too gingery.

And now enjoy you chilled beer
